Wheelchair Basketball
As one of the first sports introduced into the Paralympics, wheelchair basketball is one of the most popular wheelchair sports today. It is a fast-paced sport with most rules being the same as traditional basketball with a few adaptations required to accommodate the use of wheelchairs.
A number of colleges and universities that have wheelchair basketball teams, including the University of Illinois, the "birthplace of collegiate wheelchair basketball." Other colleges and universities with wheelchair basketball teams include the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the University of Texas at Arlington, the University of Missouri, and the University of Alabama.
SportAbility of Iowa strongly believes in inclusion--we invite people with and without disabilities to participate in all of our programs. So whether you regularly use a wheelchair or not, GET IN THE GAME and join us!
The time, dates, and location of our wheelchair basketball program depends on the number of participants and facility availability. Please check our Event Calendar for the latest information!
